BUILDINGS BRING BACK MEMORIES

By the Railroad Tracks

ELEVATOR AND WELL HOUSE
This well house was used for the steam engines and the Jitney.

The Jitney made its last run on Saturday May 31, 1958. The Jitney ran to Natoma and Plainville. In fact, it ran from Salina to Hill City, going back and forth.

Later the farmers used it so they could hall water to livestock.

Did you notice this in the article "Water Tower - Landmark" with Ula White's picture . . . .
"The water tower was a part of the Work Projects Administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The lower part of the water tower and the limestone water house, built south of town to enclose the water well, were completed within nine months."

More MEMORIES? Pat has some memories in the "Comments".
