A MESSAGE FROM DOUG SIEMENS, SON OF WALTER SIEMENS - PRINCIPAL OF CLASSES OF 1962-1963

186973

Comments are on the left hand side, towards the bottom, of these posts.  I'm not sure that each of you notice the comments.
I'm sure several of you will enjoy reading this comment and it will bring back memories for you.
Thank You Doug for taking out the time to write a Comment and give those students that had your Dad for a Principal the memories.  He left the year that I started teaching in Paradise.

My name is Doug Siemens, my father was Walter Siemens, principal at Paradise for the classes of 1962 and 1963. While I was too young to attend Paradise then, my brothers Don and Dan along with my sisters Walta, Rosanne and Lyn did. I think Don was a freshman our last year in town.

Dad passed away in 1985. Earlier this year, we cleaned out Mom's house and came across the Pirate yearbooks from those two years. I started searching and stumbled across this blogsite.

One memory I have about town was living in the bus barn for a few days while we waited for our house to be completed. We ended up living just up the hill from Mr. and Mrs. White, an old couple whose son and family lived in an "underground" house.

If any Paradise Educated readers are interested in contacting me regarding my family members, my email is dmsiemens80@gmail.com

MORE FLOOD PICTURES FROM DAN HOISINGTON

184939

I received these pictures from Dan 9/6/16.  I'm sorry I'm so slow about getting them on the blog.  I could blame it on to a lot of things, but won't go into that now.  He signs his messages "Star."  He just knows he is my Star student.  :)  Actually, he is - along with many others.

Hi Onnalee,
Here are a few pics of the Saline River at the Hoisington farm 8 miles SW of Paradise.  It is where Agnes Sims lived when she taught school. Then I took some pics of what use to be a 9.5 acre pond.  After 6 years of drought the pond has been bone dry but the rains this summer had it filling up and last week it was finally full.  This land belongs to John & Yvonne Driscoll (Van sold it to them about 6 years ago).  John took Yvonne out on Saturday evening to see the pond as neither of them had ever seen it completely full.  That only lasted a few hours as by Sunday morning the pond was empty due to the dam failing.  It is a very sad sight!

FLOOD NEWS FROM MOLLIE HABERER

183356
.
Eric and Mollie's after the flood
She said . . . .
"
River up in our backyard not quite as bad as 1993 but it keeps coming up.  We had 4 1/2 inches but our neighbor had 6 1/2 last night. I don't know what they had west that's what's going to hurt us!"

Mollie posted this on facebook on
 Labor Day.
"As you can see it has receded some but not a lot. After looking at it Eric says the damage is a lot he feels like it would be millions of dollars along the Saline River from Northwest Kansas down to the Wilson dam. Luckily in this area there was nobody lost in the flood they were able to recuse 14 people: they were camp just a few miles from our house in a lower area. There was a man from the Hill City/Hoxie area that lost his life in the flood. It definitely was a flash flood."
