CIMARRON, Kansas – Glenda May Hutchcraft, 79, died Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Shepherd’s Center, Cimarron. She was born June 20, 1937 at Hays the daughter of Norman and Ruth May (Burger) Hutchcraft.
She was educated in Paradise Schools, completing the ninth grade. After leaving school, Glenda continued to learn by reading voraciously. She has an amazing vocabulary and imagination. She delighted her nieces and nephews and had a wonderful memory for all their birthday’s and ages. She attended church at the Paradise Church of the Nazarene and maintained a strong faith all of her life.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and until recent years enjoyed calling old friends and relatives on the phone. Over the years her vision failed her but she enjoyed talking, singing, playing the harmonica and taking care of her doll.
In the late 1970’s life at home became difficult for Glenda and she moved to a nursing home in Russell. From there she moved to facilities in Pratt and Medicine Lodge. She eventually lived at and was employed by Arrowhead West in Dodge City. For the last nine years she has resided at The Shepherd’s in Cimarron.
Survivors include: her 3 siblings, Dwain Hutchcraft and wife Carol, Buena Vista, Colorado, Gerald Hutchcraft and wife Juliet, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Norma Williams and husband Jim, Canton, Ohio; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all whom she was very interested in; and Shirley Ellis, who has been her faithful friend and house mate for years.

The family suggests memorials to the Shepherd’s Center in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 446, Cimarron, Kansas 67835.

graduated from Paradise High School in 1971. I don't have the opportunity to
come back to Paradise often (my parents and my wife's parents had both moved to
Russell before they passed away), but I have some fond memories. I try to go to
the Paradise Educated website at least twice a month, and always want to see
something about old friends. Deb Maupin's brother Phil was my best friend in
high school. Her husband Tom is a distant cousin of mine and his brother,
Terry, was also one of my best friends in high school. I haven't spoken with any

I received some pictures from Janette Angel Ross of the reunion last night. Wonderful! She even sent a video of some of the attendees doing the Charleston. I hope I can get it on the blog. If I can't, Jim can. :)
I have PT and a Dr's appointment today, so I will be interrupted getting pictures on, but it is so exciting seeing everyone. No one has aged a bit. In fact, so far, everyone looks younger.
Hope to get many more pictures from others. I heard there were several people taking pictures, so I am looking forward to receiving all pictures - via email.

passed away Fri. June 3, 2016
at his home in Wichita.

Roger, the son of Alfred and Gertrude (Brumbaugh) Thompson, was born
on January 13, 1935, at home in Paradise, Kansas. He graduated from Paradise
High School in 1954.
In 1953, he was united in marriage to Dixie Finch. They had 3 children, Beverly, Robbie and Ricky. They lived in Salina, KS for several years where he worked in construction. They moved to Osawatomie, Kansas where he drove a bread truck. Dixie and Roger divorced in 1965.
He made his way to Wichita, Kansas and married Carolyn (Harris) Thompson in Feb. 11, 1970. She had three children, Tami, Allen and Shelly. He eventually adopted Allen and Shelly. He worked for many years at Berry Tractor and Equipment Company until he retired.
Roger was not very good at being retired and took a part time job as the train conductor for Joyland Amusement Park. Once the amusement park closed for the winter he decided since he liked driving people around so much he became a school bus driver. He drove for Wichita school district and then ended his bus driving career when he retired from Haysville school district in 2008.
We lost Carolyn on April 27, 2008. After her death, he stayed active and socialized with friends in the Senior Citizen communities in Haysville and Wichita. At one of the many dances he attended, he met a very special companion, Lelia Waters. They enjoyed many things together including traveling, watching Nascar and college basketball, and of course dancing.
Roger is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn,
parents Alfred and Gertrude,
Brothers; Ronnie, Arthur, Gerald and Lex.
Brother-in-law, Don McCall,
Sister; Joy
Sister-in-law; Norma.
Survivors include his loving children, Beverly (Bob) Sunderland of Greely, KS, Robbie (Robin) Thompson of Bynum, AL, Ricky (Barbara) Thompson of Panama Beach, FL, Shelly (Jody) Nelson of Wichita, Allen Thompson of Leavenworth, KS, Tami (Pat) Ibarra of Wichita,
sisters, Vivian, JoAnn, Sue (Rod),
sister-in-laws, Florence and Joyce,
31 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way,
9 great-great grandchildren with one on the way and several nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by many.

Visitation was June 8, 2016 from 6 to 8pm.
Funeral services were at 10 am on Thurs. June 9, 2016 both at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita.
Burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita.

Haysville Senior Citizen Center, 160 E. Karla Ave., Haysville, KS 67060.

"Onnalee, Just a note to ask for prayers again for myself. Have been having regular checkups with my cancer doctor in Hays. He order a CT scan about a month ago and found I have some lesions on my lungs that came from having colon cancer 5 years ago. So I am again undergoing chemotherapy for the next 6 months, every other week. I will be fine as God is going to take care of me and I have many prayer warriors in many different places. Thanks for the Paradise blog. It is a great way to find out what is going on with our Paradise grads.

Our wonderful friend, Karen Jakub, injured her leg in a fall on March 18, 2016. This was the same place that she injured it in a fall in August, 2015. Because of these two bad falls, Karen has developed cellulitis and she has been hospitalized twice with mega doses of antibiotic for the cellulitis. The mega doses of antibiotic has caused C Diff. (a specific kind of bacterial infection that causes mild to life-threatening forms of diarrhea and colitis). Right now, this is very serious for Karen. Her Infectious Disease Dr is treating her with two weeks of Flagyl for the diarrhea - C Diff. She is not in the hospital right now, but we never know from day to day what the news will be. She is very delicate right now and needs our prayers daily.

I think of you and pray for you daily and several times during the night. If I wasn't such a "weakling" I would be right there with you all those many days in the hospital.

We need assistance from each of you
This was sent last week from "Star."
Thanks to Steve Thompson of the south Paradise Pride Committee we have
beautiful flowers growing on the east side of the black top. This really sets
the south side off from the rest of the dull, boring town. This took real
artistry to get the fresh flowers arranged properly.
Main Street is nothing but out of county and state vehicles while the regional news media have been camping out on the edge of town. This is the most exciting April I can remember.
Fred Whitman who is the Russell County Sheriff said if he catches anyone sitting on the flower pot they will be arrested and jailed.
