Congratulations to my husband
(Millard Harrell)

The 2014 Fall Issue of the Woodcarving Illustrated magazine (Fox Chapel Publishing Co.) with his article “Carve a Welcoming Wood Spirit” AND with a picture of his Wood Spirit is on the front cover.  Wow!  What an honor!

He received an email from Woodcarving Illustrated in June  stating that they were getting the 2014 Fall Issue ready and Millard’s wood spirit instructional article would be in that magazine.
From Bob Duncan . .
.
“Hi Millard,
We're finishing up preparing the article for our art department (we're planning on putting it in the Fall issue). As Mindy's making the final pass over the article, she commented that "Millard's instructions and photos are crazy good. We need more stuff from him."

So... I'm reaching out to see if and what you'd be interested in doing an article on for 2015. Furthermore, would you be interested in coming to our open house/woodworking show in 2015 (May 8-9) and teaching a class in facial anatomy?”

That folks is a prestigious honor in the field of woodcarving.  Millard is highly recognized nationally for his facial expressions – especially the eyes.

Millard did an article on carving Santa’s in the Holiday edition of Woodcarving Illustrated in 2010.
The news about it was on Millard’s Foundwood Carving blog.

Thanks for the comment Dan Hoisington . . . . . .  (He thinks he is my Star student. Don't tell him any differently.)   Smiling!
"Congrats to Millard on the magazine article!!!  As was mentioned, the first thing I noticed were the eyes.  Hoe does he do that?  Also, as mentioned about the mouth being hidden by the beard,  the spirit looks to have a pleasant expression on his face.  I can not figure out how he did that either.  Millard really does a masterful job!!
