"I had such a great time at the first Paradise Fall Festival last year and I think it's such a great idea for the town. It's a really good time for people to come home and spend some time remembering the old days, and catch up with old friends. This year I wanted to help out more, so my family and I planned a pre-party in the old gas station. Quentin Maupin owns it now and he did so much work getting it ready for us, and I know a lot of other people pitched in and helped too. Todd Schneider made a delicious taco dinner for us and it was a really fun night.

The next day, some of us Hendershott descendants went out to the "old Hendershott quarter," where my great-great grandparents, James and Sarah Hendershott, settled in the late 1800s. My great-grandpa George Hendershott grew up there with his two siblings. He married Ida Saum, whose family ran the Hotel Paradise.

The 2nd Annual Paradise Fall Festival was on Saturday night. It started with activities for kids like a money dig, train rides, petting zoo, a clown, and a corn maze. There was a cupcake stand with some delicious treats. Then the Paradise Festival staff served a delicious BBQ dinner with smoked pulled pork, beans, coleslaw, hot dogs with sauerkraut, and more! Finally, The Prophets reunited once again to play a collection of great songs that we all enjoyed. I got to play drums on "Johnny B. Goode" so that Danny could come to the front and sing. This was a lifelong dream of mine to play with the Prophets, which includes my uncle Ronnie, so I was very happy! The whole night was amazing and I can't wait for the 3rd annual festival!"

Lewis Wayne "Bud" Eulert, 87, of Hays and Paradise, Kansas, died on Friday, May 31, 2019, at the family farm in Paradise, Kansas.

Bud was born on October 18, 1931, in Rural Paradise, Kansas, the son of Otto C. and Elsie (Reich) Eulert.  He grew up in Paradise and graduated from Paradise High School.  After high school he graduated from Ft. Hays State University.  After achieving his degree, he served his country by joining the United States Army.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Kathryn A. Wolf on March 06, 1954, in Natoma, Kansas.  From this union they were blessed with 6 children David, Max, Peggy, Anna Lou, Amy and LuAnn.  Bud and Kathryn were happily married for 54 years before preceding him in death on September 13, 2008 .  Losing his wife was devastating for him, but Bud was fortunate to find love again and was united in marriage to Ann (Morgan) McGlocklin on December 24, 2010, in Hawaii.  Bud enjoyed working as a farmer and rancher and spent countless hours managing his cattle and farm.  Bud would tell you he loved his farm but later in life, what really intrigued him was managing his oil investments.  He was co-owner of ESP Development.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Kansas Herford Association, Kansas Wheat Growers Association and was on the Paradise School and Township Boards.  He enjoyed collecting Indian Artifacts, painting and gun collecting.  Most of all he enjoyed spending his time with his family.

Surviving family include his wife Ann of Hays, Kansas, sons David Eulert of Lenexa, Kansas, Max Eulert (Sally) in Ellis, Kansas; daughters Peggy Eulert of Paradise, Kansas, Amy Groom (Tim) of Wellington, Kansas and LuAnn Eulert of Kirkland, Washington; brother Donald Eulert and companion Ute of San Diego, California; sisters Irene Schmidtberger (Linus) of Corpus Christi, Texas and Lynda Koelling (Warren) of Paradise, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Reese Eulert, Fay Eulert, Otto Eulert, Oliver Eulert, David Keil (Gela Parish) Drew Keil (Crystal Hill), Owen Keil, Ian Groom and Brody Groom, 2 great grandchildren Elsie & Scarlet Woods;  step daughters Heather McGlocklin of Wichita, Kansas and Bobbi Hase (Collin) of Miami, Florida, step grandchildren Memphis and Liberty Hase.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathryn; sisters Eleanor Laubhan and Joyce Gillett; brother Harold Eulert and infant daughter Anna Lou Eulert.

A memorial service to celebrate Bud's life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas with Pastor Wes Oakley officiating.  The family will have a 2 P.M. graveside service, at the Fairport Cemetery in Fairport, Kansas.  Memorials may be given to Hays Hospice or the Russell County Area Community Foundation and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Delphan leaves a legacy of a love for Jesus, a kind heart, a giving spirit, service to his country and a love of family.

He was born February 20, 1929 in Paradise, Kansas, to Maude Louise and Arneylee “Lee” Hoopes. He had eight younger siblings, Velma Mae, Marjorie Louise, Larry Kay, Glen Arlen, Patty Lou, Linda Rae, Jack Burdett and Terry Dean. Delphan went into the United States Army Air Corp in 1947 (later the United States Air Force) and served as an aviation mechanic. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1967 after completing twenty years of service to his country. He met and married the love of his life for 69 years Jean Alice Doddridge and had five sons: Randall Wayne, John Michael, Kim Richard, Chris Douglas and James Matthew.

Delphan worked for Methodist Hospital of Lubbock Texas were he became the Director of Engineering and Maintenance before he retired. He was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Lubbock.

Delphan and his wife Jean retired to Florida were they traveled the United States and the world with family and friends. He and his wife later on became caregivers for his wife’s mother.

Delphan is preceded in death by his two sons, sister and parents. 

Delphan is survived by his wife, Jean Alice and three sons: John Michael, Chris Douglas, James Matthew, fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Gary Sinise Foundation.

Marvin was born October 4, 1943 in Russell County Kansas to Elsie Vera Rounkles (Killian) and Chester Leroy Rounkles. Marvin grew up on a farm in Paradise, Kansas where he had many adventures. He graduated Paradise High School in 1961. He continued his education by studying Accounting at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas and Graduate with a Bachelor of Science in 1965. In May of 1965 Marvin married Anita Joyce (Evans). Together they had three children Ryan Kendall (1968), Ross Christopher (1971) and Rachelle Kimberly (1976). Marvin served in the Air Force and then the Civil Service working many years at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville Illinois. In 1979, Marvin received an MBA from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville Illinois. After he received his MBA he was an Adjunct Professor in the evening for McKendree University and Parks College.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Chester Leroy Rounkles and Elsie Vera Rounkles and sisters Janice Elaine Rounkles and Joyce Ellen Mello. 

He is survived by sisters Lois Jean Bonar and Penelope (Penny) Fern Loker, 

his children Ryan Kendall Rounkles (wife Maureen Ann Fisher), Ross Christopher Rounkles (wife Autumn Breanne Gatewood) and Rachelle Kimberly Klomps, 

his grandchildren Dylan Klomps, Kira Rounkles, Tessa Gatewood Rounkles, Maya Rounkles, McKenna Gatewood-Rounkles, Braelyn Rounkles, Landon Rounkles and Tobias Rounkles.

Marvin coached his kids and grandchildren in basketball, baseball and soccer. Grandchildren.
Marvin enjoyed coin collecting, watching movies, and all sports especially the Denver Broncos and the St Louis Cardinals. But nothing will compare to his love of simply playing with his grandchildren.

He was born in rural Paradise KS on March 14, 1931, to Marshall T & Anna Bertha Marie (Eulert) Maupin. Due to a farm accident Anna passed away in December of 1932 and his dad later married Margaret Weller (Pooley) in 1952. 
.
Marshall Samuel was commonly known by (as) Sam and he attended grade school at the Paradise Dell Country School and later graduated from Paradise Rural High School in 1949. He had a love for music and was asked to fill in for a drummer at one of the many country dances he attended and that is where he met and fell in love with his wife of 68 years, Rita Mae Wallace. They were married on July 25, 1950. Their marriage was blessed with three boys, Marshall Thomas (Tom), Samuel Terry (Terry) and Timothy Douglas. In Sam’s early years he had a love for farming and ranching. His dad helped him start this venture while Sam also worked outside jobs in the oilfield and dirt construction to support his growing family. He eventually transitioned to a full time farmer rancher and also operated a dairy until the late 1980’s. He continued with his cow/calf operation and farming after the dairy was no longer something he and Rita wanted to continue. Sam was active in his farm operations until the Good Lord called him home. Spending time with family visiting, eating, and celebrating birthdays and holiday’s was of utmost importance to him. You could also find Sam over the years at local sporting events watching his grandchildren and then his great grandchildren!  Sam also enjoyed his volunteer work. He was a loyal member and promoter of the Waldo Lions Club, being a member for 50+ years and recently served at the last pancake feed. He enjoyed attending farm auctions and weekly sales at the local livestock barns. He also was a long time school board member, served on the Mount Hermon Cemetery Board and helped lobby for the formation of the Paradise Rural Fire Department.

 Sam also held in high regard the foundational views of the democrat party and would vote hands down for them whether right or wrong! As a result of this stubbornness, all of Sam’s family are now die hard conservative Republicans! Survivors include his wife Rita of Paradise, KS, brother, Randall Weller and wife Phyllis of Hill City, KS, Sons Tom Maupin and wife Deborah of Paradise KS, Terry Maupin and companion Mary of Paradise KS and Tim Maupin and wife Rita of Urbana IL,11 Grandchildren Quentin (Audrey) Maupin, Erin Maupin , Holly (Weston) Kraus, Heather (Tanner) Lyle, Barry (Nicole) Maupin, Tessa Maupin, Korte (Levi) Warren, Shane (Jordan) Maupin, Shannon Maupin, Monica Wahquahboshkuk and Benjamin (Jessica) Crane and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Elois Irene Loskot Clark (Maupin) of Sutherlin, Oregon.

Mabel Irene Koelling Pruter

Mabel Irene Koelling Pruter, 98, of Cartwright, Oklahoma, and former Natoma, Kansas resident, died on Sunday, May 05, 2019, at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.

Mabel Irene Schneider was born at Laton, Kansas, December 18, 1920, to Emma (Rediker) and John A. Schneider.

She was baptized January 9,1921 in Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Natoma. Her father died when she was four and the family moved to Natoma. She was confirmed at St. John’s in Natoma. Mabel attended all twelve years of education in the Natoma school graduating in 1939.

She married Walter Koelling on September 6, 1939 in Grand Junction, Colorado. Mabel and Walter made their home in Natoma and raised two daughters, Kathleen and Kristine. Walter passed away in October 1974. She married Alvin Pruter on January 31, 1981. Alvin and Mabel lived 7 years on his farm north of Natoma, moved into Natoma in 1988 and lived in town seven years before he passed away August 5, 1995.

Mabel retired from working in the Ben Franklin Store and Boyd’s Variety after 30 years. She always remarked how thankful she was to have worked for good people and enjoyed the good people of the community. She spent her entire life in the Natoma community except three years with Kathleen in Kansas City and the last year close to Kristine and husband Terry Martin, Cartwright, Oklahoma, in the Southern Pointe Care Center, Colbert, Oklahoma.

She leaves her two daughters Kathleen Williams of Kansas City, Missouri and Kristine Martin (Terry) of Cartwright, Oklahoma, six grandchildren and twelve great grand-children. Mabel has one living brother, Virgil Schneider, Paonia, Colorado, and her brother Orville Schneider is deceased. One step son, Orville (Betty) Pruter of Natoma, Kansas, is still living. Step sons Ival and Keith have passed. Patty Pruter is a dear step daughter in law. She also has seven step grandchildren, fifteen step great grandchildren, and nine step great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of Mabel’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Natoma, Kansas, with Pastor Michael Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow the church service at the Natoma Lutheran Cemetery in Natoma, Kansas. Viewing and visitation with the family will be from 10 A.M. to service time on Saturday.

Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church or the Natoma Community Center and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Natoma, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Forrest Eugene "Frosty" White 

November 18, 1938 - March 19, 2019

Frosty was born November 18, 1938 to Charles and Ula White of Paradise, KS.
He is predeceased by his wife, Judy Berniece Hubbard White of Kansas City, KS, his parents, brothers Ivan and Dale White and sister, Violet Parsons, and son-in-law, Paul Hurley. He is survived by sister, Garnet Angel of Olathe and Vernon "Doc" White of Wichita, daughters, Trudy Hurley of Shawnee and Stasha Case of Olathe, Stasha's husband Bill Case, and granddaughter Lauryn Hurley.
Services were Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00 pm in the Wesley Covenant Chapel at the Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, KS 66224. 
A social reception was at Coach’s, 9089 W. 135th St, Overland Park, following the service. Charitable donations can be made to The Theatre in the Park, Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66212 or online at

The youngest of 6 children, Frosty grew up in Paradise, a small farming community in western Kansas, which he truly considered the most beautiful place on Earth. He attended Paradise Methodist Church and sang with the choir there.

After graduating in a class of 12 from Paradise High School, he spent a year at Hope College then returned to Kansas to attend Kansas State University and study Mathematics. While at KSU he was active in his fraternity, Delta Upsilon, and with the K-State Singers. His time spent with the K-State Singers included a USO Tour to perform in Korea. He also met his wife, Judy,
while at K-State.

Upon graduating, Frosty and Judy moved to Torrance, CA where Frosty taught math at West High School while Judy finished her teaching degree at Long Beach State. Once that was accomplished, they sold everything, including the small trailer they lived in, and traveled to Germany to teach school on a US Army base. They took the opportunities afforded by school breaks to travel all throughout Europe.

After one year, Frosty was offered the chance to study computer science and programming at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Judy taught school while Frosty studied. He spent a year completing his training in Hawaii and in 1966, with Judy pregnant with eldest daughter, Trudy, they returned to settle down in Overland Park. Stasha was born 16 months after Trudy.

Frosty worked for IBM for several years, travelling around the country and working with companies to improve their cyber security in the pioneering days of computing. He left IBM for a job that didn’t require so much travel in the computing department of Gay Gibson, one of the many KC garment labels that once thrived here. He eventually started his own company, writing computer programs for small businesses and selling Data General computers.
He ended his career working for Sprint.

While his girls were growing up, Frosty was the family breadwinner while Judy was the homemaker. He knew what boys like to do but was unprepared for little girls! The first activity was a group called Indian Princesses, a father daughter scouting-type group that now would be considered an inappropriate cultural mis-appropriation. Stasha's Indian Princess name was
White Feather, Trudy was Silver Feather and Frosty was Bald Eagle. We thought we were so clever.

Our next adventure was softball. The girls played for 8 years with Frosty serving as an assistant coach. Since neither Trudy or Stasha were particularly athletic, in junior high they rebelled. Trudy announced she was trying out for Theatre in the Park in Shawnee Mission Park that summer. With Frosty's singing background at K-State, he decided this would be a fine change. He and Stasha ended up auditioning as well and all three were cast in The Music Man in 1982.

Frosty ended up performing in at least one show per summer until 2009 and then a couple more thereafter. He was often joined by his daughters. Twice they were able to convince Judy to join them. The family met and became friends with Stasha's future husband, Bill Case, throughPark shows. Bill eventually ended up working for and with Frosty in the computer business and at Sprint. When granddaughter Lauryn came along, she joined the "family business" as soon as she was able. Frosty, Trudy, Stasha and Lauryn performed together in 4 productions. He could not have loved his family more or been prouder of them.

After Judy passed away in 2004, Frosty was fortunate to find love again with Vonnye Sue Small whom he met through mutual friends. They spent many happy years together, living together in Overland Park and Houston, TX.

He was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection and volunteered for some of their outreach ministries. A member of COR choir, he took great pleasure in the opportunity to sing and enjoy the camaraderie of all the members.

Frosty was the friendliest man in the world. There is no hyperbole in that sentence. He truly never met a stranger. He was generous with his time and money to friends and acquaintances. He will be missed by his family and the many, many lives he has touched.

Connie Sue (Webster) Anderson

August 19, 1944 ~ March 14, 2019 (age 74)

Connie Sue Anderson, 74, of Osborne, KS passed away on March 14, 2019 at her home in Osborne after a long battle with cancer.  She was born on August 19, 1944 in Paradise, KS to Carl & Anna C. (Paulsen) Webster.  Connie was one of several children.

Connie graduated from the Paradise Schools and then from the Willcox Beauty Academy in Dodge City, KS.  She worked in beauty shops in Russell and Lincoln, KS.  While she was working in Lincoln, she met her future husband, John Anderson.  They were married and had 3 children.
.

While John was in the service, they lived in Pensacola, FL, Norfolk, VA and Bethesda, MD.  After John was discharged from the service, they moved to Osborne, KS and made it their home.  She later worked as a retail clerk in several businesses in Osborne.

Connie was a member of the Portis United Methodist Church.  She was also an active member in the Osborne VFW Aux. #7743.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Carol, brothers Ruben and Chester.

Connie is survived by her husband John of Osborne; daughter: Shawn (Mark) Lofing of Kinsley, KS; sons: Christian (Mellisa) Anderson of Wamego, KS; Charles (Schanee) Anderson of Wichita, KS; 7 grandchildren; sister: Anita Swarts of Kansas City, KS; brothers: Jerry Webster of Landenburg, PA; Alvin Webster of Russell, KS.
