Delphan leaves a legacy of a love for Jesus, a kind heart, a giving spirit, service to his country and a love of family.
He was born February 20, 1929 in Paradise, Kansas, to Maude Louise and Arneylee “Lee” Hoopes. He had eight younger siblings, Velma Mae, Marjorie Louise, Larry Kay, Glen Arlen, Patty Lou, Linda Rae, Jack Burdett and Terry Dean. Delphan went into the United States Army Air Corp in 1947 (later the United States Air Force) and served as an aviation mechanic. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1967 after completing twenty years of service to his country. He met and married the love of his life for 69 years Jean Alice Doddridge and had five sons: Randall Wayne, John Michael, Kim Richard, Chris Douglas and James Matthew.
Delphan worked for Methodist Hospital of Lubbock Texas were he became the Director of Engineering and Maintenance before he retired. He was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Lubbock.
Delphan and his wife Jean retired to Florida were they traveled the United States and the world with family and friends. He and his wife later on became caregivers for his wife’s mother.
Delphan is preceded in death by his two sons, sister and parents.
Delphan is survived by his wife, Jean Alice and three sons: John Michael, Chris Douglas, James Matthew, fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Gary Sinise Foundation.
