At Dan & Mona Hoisington's
after the Memorial Services
Stasha White Case(Frosty White's daughter)
It was Stasha's birthday and the puppy (black lab) was a birthday gift.
The story is that they already have 2 dogs - an 18 yr old and a 4 yr old.
The story is that they already have 2 dogs - an 18 yr old and a 4 yr old.
They live in Olathe and couldn't decide whether
they should get another dog or not.
Stasha and her husband drove around Paradise
for 1/2 hour discussing the pros and cons.
When they came back, after their drive, they announced
that they were going to keep the dog and
her name would be "Paradise".
They got the dog from Brett and Bonnie Thompson.
By the way . . . at this time, the Thompson's have/had 7 more dogs.
I don't know if they are selling them or giving them away.

CORA IDA TERRY
Cora Ida Terry, 86, of rural Russell, Kansas, died on the 4th of June 2010 at the home of her daughter Luella in Burlington, Kansas. She had been fighting leukemia there for 14 months.
Ida was born on December 11, 1923 at the family home of JC (Charlie) and Cora Sellens Trapp in rural Waldo.
Ida graduated from Waldo High School in 1941 with her sweetheart, Earle Terry. They were married on November 13, 1944 in Manhattan, Kansas, while she was attending Kansas State University and Earle was preparing to deploy to Europe in World War II. After the war, they settled on the family farm north of Russell where they raised four children: Charles, David, Luella, and Corinne.
Ida and Earle shared nearly 64 years of wonderful marriage before he preceded her in death in 2008.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Ida had a passion for serving others. Her life-long love for teaching children started when she rode a horse to teach in a one-room country schoolhouse. She drew great satisfaction from following the lives and careers of her former students. Ida was active in the Waldo United Methodist Church—as a youth sponsor, Sunday school teacher, and women’s ministry leader—along with several community groups.
Many family members and friends have been blessed with the fruits of her baking, gardening, sewing, and handiwork. Her warm hospitality, Christian values, and servant heart leave behind a legacy that will live on for generations.
Surviving family members include her four children:
Charles Terry and wife Pam of Bakersfield, California;
David Terry and wife Lena of Ashburn, Virginia;
daughter Luella Masters and husband Brian of Burlington, Ks; and daughter Corinne Masters and husband Delwin of Natoma, KS;
sisters-in-law Frances Matheson and Mildred Terry of Russell, KS, and Evelyn Trapp of Salina, KS.
Ida and Earle have 12 grandchildren:
Leslie (Terry) Falcon and husband Sam; Josh and Todd Evans, and Rome Calderwood; Charles Terry, Jonathan Terry and wife Laura, and Joshua Terry and wife Lyndsay; Keira, Annelise, and Kendra Masters; and Tyler, Cole, and Dean Masters. Ida and Earle also have 3 great grandchildren: Naomi, Avalon, and Isabella Falcon.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Lyle, Earl, and Elmer Trapp; sister Mary (Trapp) Wheeler, and infant grandson Earle Lee Terry.
Celebration of Ida’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday June 11, 2010 at the Waldo United Methodist Church in Waldo, Kansas with Pastor Sharon Thomas officiating.
Burial will follow at the Grand Center Cemetery north of Waldo.
Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with family present to greet visitors from 6 PM to 7 PM Thursday evening.
Memorials may be given to the Waldo United Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary.

"THAT ONE THING IS YOU"

Arthur Lee graduated from Fairport Grade School and attended Paradise High School from 1956 and 1957.
Art has a niece, Natalie (Ruda) Seybold, who was raised in the northwest part of Kansas in Atwood.
Natalie's son, Trevor Seybold, 17, will be a Senior next year at O'Connor High school in Helotes, Texas. Helotes is in the very northwest part of San Antonio. Trevor has been playing the guitar by ear since 4th grade and he started a band in 8th grade. He has been composing and writing lyrics for the past year.
Besides the guitar as Trevor's first passion, he is also a leader and starting Varsity linebacker for the O'Connor Panthers.
Trevor and his family are in the process of getting his song on I tunes and some other music sites and then they will be promoting them to their local radio stations and blogs as "O'Connor Varsity Linebacker Records His Own Song in Nashville".

Trevor and Natalie had the amazing opportunity to record his composition, "That One Thing Is You", in Nashville over Memorial Day weekend. They recorded it at Sorted Noise Studios in Franklin, TN.
Background vocals, bass guitar and electric guitar were done by co-producer, Thad Beaty who is one of the guitarists in the band for Sugarland, and drums were done by co-producer, Jason Collum who has performed with Back Street Boys, Little Big Town, Michelle Branch and now, Julie Roberts.

Natalie collaborated with to make arrangements for Trevor to record his song at the Sorted Noise

Josh's brother, Jason Collum, was the drummer
on Trevor's song and Thad Beaty (in the top
photo, in the middle) played the guitar and background vocal for "THAT ONE THING IS YOU" - Trevor's song.
Thad plays with the Sugarland band and is vocalist also.

What a marvelous site you have created and maintained.
Thank you very much. I enjoyed every part of it, even including Millard's remembrance of my well-founded and consistently maintained dislike for Navy-style beans. The photographs at the beginning are also real treasures.
Dorothy and I plan to attend this year's reunion and we look forward to seeing you. It will surely be a sad time in a way as we have lost some fine people since the last reunion, but it also brings back many good memories. Also, how many things I didn't know while living in Paradise. I didn't know there actually was a Billy Groover's (sp) house, apparently out by the dip, and I'm naturally surprised I didn't know. On the other hand, it would be nice to have one of those tobogganing evenings again.
By the way, did Millard make the round trip on his bike?"

Because of Jon's email, I went all the way back on the blog. There is a lot of "stuff" on it. That takes forever . . . . particularly to find out about Jon and the ham'n beans posting. Jon must have been reading forever.
I also noticed that some of the posts should be larger print. :)
And . . . Yes Jon, Millard made the round trip on his bike. ☺

We agree with Jon, it is sad that we have lost so many that have been so close to us - just in this past year. We certainly will miss each of them.

First of all . . . I am not the expert on everything about Paradise. I am able to publish information on this blog because of all of the experts that send it to me.

I emailed Dan Hoisington this morning for more photo's. I thought we had several pictures of the Dean Brown Home as we took several of it last year on Memorial Day. I can not figure out what happened to them. We had a Computer thief, I guess, as I would NEVER delete anything that I wanted to keep. Ha! Sometimes technology just does wierd things that I can not keep up with.
Isn't the close up to the entry way neat?
I would imagine that there are some very good stories about that. I do not remember it looking like this when I was teaching in Paradise.

Another A+ for the excellent pictures.
Do you suppose he feels guilty about being so ornery in school?

This woodcarving is a donation to the Smoky Hills Public Television, Bunker Hill, KS, for their annual fundraising auction.This carving in Cottonwood Bark of a wood spirit incorporates the Sunflowers to make it a true spirit of the rare central Kansas wooded areas: the Cottonwood tree being the state tree and the Sunflower being the state flower.
Approximately 120 items will be auctioned during their live broadcast, April 17 and 18, 2010 from the Mall of Hays.

"As a boy growing up in northern Russell county, I can recall the special magical feeling of being in the presence of tree spirits, as I spent time walking along Paradise and Eagle Creeks. Growing up in Northern Central Kansas, with generally few trees, the cool shade and woody smells and sounds that are experienced as one walks among the large red oak trees that line the Paradise and Eagle Creeks, truly provide a back drop for one to conjure up the idea that he is in the presence of Wood Spirits."

LUCAS -- Sharon L. (Schneider) Steinle, 74, of Lucas, died Sunday, April 4,
2010. She was born March 13, 1936.
Survivors include a son, Alan Steinle, of Dimmitt, Texas; one daughter, Kala
Naegele, of Farmington, N.M.; a sister, Marlys Yarnell, of Lucas; and four
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, on Aug. 27,
1986.
There will be a private funeral service and burial.
