PLEASE PRAY

Pat Preston and Iva Byrd are still having health problems from their last posts here on the Paradise Blog.
.
Pat is having a MRI on her lower back on Mon to see what is going on with her. They know something is not right but they can't seem to figure out what it is.
.
.
From Pat . . .
" I am still having trouble walking and my leg and foot is still numb so the Doc thought that there was something in my lower back pinching a nerve or disk or something of this sort. So I am going for it, as life is to short to stay this way. This MRI is just for the lower part of my body. The head is healing great but have a MRI in June for another one just for the brain to see if all is still ok...Thanks for your time on blog --

Pat Hoopes Preston"
.
Iva is having a lot of trouble yet. She has had a sore on her leg that became ulcerated and they are going to try to do some grafting to encourage healing.
.
Please pray for both of them.

Getting older is certainly not for "Sissies".

CHARLES LANDIS

.
Karen Jakub sent me an update from Don, about Charles, yesterday.

Charles was put back in the hospital this past weekend but he is doing much better today. They run some tests and then walked him down the hallway today. He will be in the hospital a few more days then back to a rehab center.

Karen, thanks for asking about Charles and if you want to you can share it with Onnalee.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE

.
I "Messed Up" my computer so bad that the technician has to take everything off and start all over. Therefore, I do not have my address book for emails. I am very sorry that I did not save Charles and Don's email addresses. If anyone has any contact with them, please ask them to email me. Or, if you have an update please send me an email.
Onnalee@foundwoodcarvings.com.

I am using a lap top - which I received because of the donations from each of the alumni at the last Paradise reunion. Thank You again for your contribution. I only have email addresses of those that have sent me an email since I have started using my lap top.

Thank You for your patience in any updates on this blog and since I am having a hard time getting the feel of a lap top, new postings may be few and far between. It is hard teaching an old dog new tricks. This one is struggling. :)

UPDATE FOR CHARLES FROM DON

Thursday - 3:34 PM.
.
"Charlie is doing okay, they had him sitting up yesterday and today the nurse took him out in the hall to walk him. That was encouraging to see that. He stated he thought he had already recovered some of his appetite.
.
As for the weather, we got about 6 inches of snow Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Without the proper road equipment it made it tough to drive for awhile. It was -5 this morning and next week it is to be about 70.

Hope everything is well in Paradise.

Don Landis
"
.
Thank You, Don. We love news like this.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Charles and all of you.

UPDATE FOR CHARLES LANDIS

Thank You
for your
Concern and your Prayers
for
Charles
He sent me an email last evening saying that he has received several emails and he appreciates all of the prayers.
.
I just now received an email from Mollie Haberer stating . . .
Charles made it through the surgery.
He is in ICU and on a ventilator.
.
Don and Delmer are with Charles. They call their parents and their parents call Mollie and Eric.
.
I received a very thoughtful email from Arthur Lee yesterday . . . .

Hi Onnalee,
Thanks for the info about Charles Landis. I sent him an E-mail. We have not talked or seen each other since 1956. I went to the eighth grade in Fairport with Charles and our Freshman and half of our sophomore years in Paradise.
I had planned on going to the last Paradise reunion but I had cancer surgery
July 20th and that took over my life. Hopefully I was able to offer some encouragement to Charles. I have completed my chemo therapy and my last PET and CT scan Dec. 27th came back clean. I will have CT scans every three months for a while.
Cancer is a scary uncertain illness but it can be cured or at the least managed. Early detection along with no other issues are very key as to the effectiveness of treatment.
I tried to assure Charles that he will come thru this and live a long normal life. I am a survivor as are thousands and thousands of others. I have diffuse large B cell non hodgkins lymphomia. It can't be cured but it can be managed for a long time. It could come back at some time , if it does I will go thru the treatment again.
I read the Paradise blog and keep in touch with Dan Hoisington via e-mail daily.
Sorry for rambling,
Arthur Lee

Thank You Arthur for contacting Charles. I am sure that was what he needed the day before his surgery. All the notes and thoughts have been wonderful for him.
By the way, I receive the same emails from Dan as you do, Arthur. At least most of mine have your name on them too.
That guy has too much time on his hands.

PUT YOUR FAITH IN ONE PAIR OF HANDS

.
Charles Landis' surgery is scheduled for tomorrow
Tuesday - Feb. 8th
in Oklahoma City
He will be checking into the hospital at 8:00 A.M.
.
Charles sent this link to several of us last week.

"One Pair of Hands" sung by Carroll Roberson
(Sounds so much like Elvis)
.
This is a very uplifting video, especially at a time like this for Charles.
.
"Those hands are so strong, so when life goes wrong,
put your faith in one pair of hands."
.
PUT YOUR FAITH IN ONE PAIR OF HANDS, CHARLES
We are thinking of you and praying for you.

SURGERY SCHEDULED FOR CHARLES LANDIS

.
Charles Landis has received word that his surgery has been scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 8th.
He has to check in to the hospital at 8:00 am.
.
Waiting to undergo surgery can be a time of anxiety.
I'm sure this will be a long week end for him, as after waiting this long a person is just ready to get it over with.
.

“God of power and might, please be with Charles during his colon cancer surgery. His body is Your creation, O Lord.
Guide the surgeon’s hand that changes it, that it might heal and function better, to Your great glory. Amen.”

CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR CHARLES LANDIS

.
Our prayers continue to be with Charles as he is still waiting for his surgery.
He has had his surgery date canceled twice because of the weather. How hard that must be for him.
Preparing for surgery is such a hard process in itself, then having it canceled is such a let down.

Please continue to pray for strength for Charles during this time.
.
Charles' brothers, Don and Delmar, are with him. His son, from Ft Worth, has been with him but he drove home today. He had to drive the 180 mile trip on ice, which took 6 hours.

Our prayers are with Charles and his family as they continue to wait.

Almighty God, who gives strength to the weak and upholds those who might fall, give each of us the courage to do what is right, for those that trust in you have no need to fear.

Make us brave to face any danger which may now threaten us.

Give us the help that you have promised to those who ask it, that we may overcome our fears and go bravely forward.

Fill us with courage, that nothing which is our duty to do, may be too hard for is. Let us put our trust in your power and goodness.

Thank you our Lord.

CHARLES LANDIS (Class of 1959)

.
Charles sent an email - 1-27-2011 - saying . . . .
"Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers."
.
Charles gave me permission to put his email address and his mailing address here on the blog.
Charles Landis . . .dcl7@swbell.net (You can click on his email address to send him a message.)
PO Box 92
Bethany, OK 73008-0092
.
Charles is single. He has 1 son, 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson.
He has lived in the Oklahoma City area since 1965.
He retired from the Bethany post office in 1996 after carrying mail for almost 31 years.

We received an email from Charles Landis today . . . .

To all my friends and relatives,
I have been diagnosed with colon cancer.
I will probably have surgery first then radiation and chemo. I have the possibility of not surviving the surgery with my COPD. I will have good Dr.'s though.

Charlie

Colon Cancer is Cancer is a malignant tumor that grows from the inner wall of the large intestine.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most common lung diseases. It makes it difficult to breathe.

There are two main forms of COPD:
Chronic bronchitis, defined by a long-term cough with mucus
Emphysema, defined by destruction of the lungs over time.

We specifically pray for all those that are reading this page
and in their heart share a prayer for strength for Charles.

The classes of

"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
Matthew 11: 28-30

Charles, this is for you . . .
"I know by faith that my life is a gift. God created me so that he could love me. He is with me at every moment. Each day is filled with opportunities to grow closer to him.

But life is hard. My faith is weak. I do not always see the signs of God's love in my life. Sometimes I feel lost and alone. Sometimes I withdraw into myself, and close myself to God's love, and fall into sin. Then life seems not a gift, but a burden hard to bear.

Yet God does not forsake me. When the light of faith dawns once more, and I turn back to him, I see that his love never fails. I see that no day is too long or lonely, no burden too heavy, no trial too great, because God is with me."

There is one Presence,
one Power in the universe:
a Creator of
Unconditional Love & Healing.
Amen
